USN fought back in each game, creating fierce competition throughout the match. The Tigers dropped their final match 0-3 (25-22, 25-15, 25-21) but received great play from a strong trio of returners for next season in Lindsay Hardy, Jade Hardaway, and Caroline Sigmund. Football defeats defending state champions in overtime
The boys of fall took on the defending state champions, Knoxville Webb, and found their first win over the Spartans. DCA trailed early in the game but looked to be in control after scoring two unanswered touchdowns. On a drive late in the first half, a controversial interception by Knoxville Webb was returned for a touchdown after the ball hit the ground, and the play stood.
Neither team could get the ball into scoring range and put points on the scoreboard in the second half, so the game went to overtime. Knoxville Webb scored first with a field goal, but DCA was able to punch the ball into the endzone from the 1 yard line to pull off the upset and take control of first place in the district. Rashad Jones had one catch in the game for 22 yards at tight end.
The team is on a bye this week and will be back in action next Friday on the road at Friendship Christian to decide the district champion and first place seed in playoffs.
XC finds several strong personal bests in Louisville
In blustery, cold, and drizzly conditions, the harriers ran well, with a plethora of PRs at the Greater Louisville Classic last weekend.
In 2013, the first year the XC teams headed to the Greater Louisville Classic, it rained nearly seven inches. Last year, it was unseasonably cold and windy. This year was a hybrid of the two--with temperatures hovering around 50F and light rain.
But no amount of rain, cold, or mud could hamper the Tigers' positive attitudes or great running. The boys kicked things off, and as usual, Wolf Robinson led the way in a time of 17:33. The next four boys all went under 19 minutes and ran lifetime PRs. Harry Compton, Crawford Lyons, Jeremy Seloff, and Eli Horton all ran exceedingly well.
The girls also had breakout performances, with a strong pack of four near the front of the race, led by Haley Morrill, Ella Stack, Talia Barton, and Lydia Warren. Sarah Knight is coming into fine form and was close behind. Zoe Light ran most of the race with one shoe on her foot and the other in her hand (having been stepped on by a competitor), and she almost ran a PR. Shriya Karam ran yet another PR to close out the team placings.
The team's improvements bode well for the end of the season. The team officially returns to action for the Metro Championships on October 22.
Bowling teams get first winsAfter a slow start to the season, the boys' bowling team picked up two consecutive wins over Pope John Paul II and Ensworth. The boys' bowling team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 16-11 victory over Ensworth at Hermitage Strike & Spare. The team got off to a fast start, gaining an 11-5 lead after two games and held on in the last game for the win. Our boys were led today by Jack Cahill with games of 233 and 216 and Jackson Arnold with a career-best 187.
The girls' team is still looking for their first win of the season. They also dropped their first match against Father Ryan and lost the last two against JPII and St. Cecilia. The girls have consistently been led by Milly West and Ellie Hollahan thus far this season.
MS Tennis finishes season in HVAC Tournament
The middle school tennis teams competed in the HVAC tournament over the past week. The boys were able to play out their tournament last week and finished the season with a 6th place finish in the HVAC finals. Although they didn't come away with a win in the tournament, the Tigers earned the 6th place finish over BGA due to their regular season win over the Wildcats.
The girls finished their season similarly, but the girls had great spirits as they walked off the courts at USN. Ria Jagasia took a tough 7-9 loss in her singles match and Emma Devlin won two more games than she did in the regular season against the same opponent.

MS Volleyball falls against Ensworth in HVAC
The middle school volleyball team competed against Ensworth in the first round of the HVAC Tournament last Monday. The Tigers could not overcome two big deficits in both of their games and dropped their final match of the season 25-16, 25-18. The team showed great fight in coming back to make the games more competitive, but the early holes were too big.
MS Golf finishes in HVAC Tournament
The MS Boys' Golf tournament was held just in time to allow 6th grader Will Barrett to participate for the first time. It was a great experience for him and a nice glimpse into the future for the middle school golf team. Barrett shot a little off his average but played well throughout the tournament to shoot a 42. 8th grader Graham Elliot also performed well in his final HVAC tournament and finished the day with a 45. The tournament was played at Ted Rhodes Golf Course.
