Dear families and friends,
I can’t believe that we are only a month away from our beloved Class of 2025 graduating from USN. While my time with this class has been short, I have enjoyed my meaningful and special interactions with this class. I wish I had more time with them, but they are ready for their next adventures and challenges after USN.
The 105 members of the Class of 2025 collectively lead with confidence and compassion. There is a lot of uncertainty in the world they are stepping into, which means they have the opportunity to make big changes in the communities they choose to enter. While they will spread out across the world, we hope that USN will always be a home to all.
As we enter the next month of celebrations, I want to take a moment to list many of the events and opportunities that will help us to honor the Class of 2025. Please note that some of these events are open to everyone, while some are not. You can also find these celebrations listed on our
USN Class of 2025 webpage.

Immediate family and faculty will gather in Durnan Auditorium as we welcome the Class of 2025 into the PDS/USN Alumni Association. This evening, formally known as Convocation, marks the beginning of our formal Commencement Week activities. Of the events of the week, Convocation is perhaps the most formal of them all — an official welcome, the presentation of a Distinguished Alumni award, and a reception all highlight the evening’s events.
We will host a full slate of programming to honor the seniors as a class, prepare them for Commencement, and reflect on the programming and messages that we started them with back in August.
-
Commencement Rehearsal: Thursday, May 15 at 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. (seniors only) Commencement Rehearsal will begin at 2 P.M. Thursday. This rehearsal will help familiarize graduates with the exact elements of Commencement Day. Graduates also receive their caps, gowns, and other needed details of the Commencement celebration. We’ll have graduates back to you all by 4 P.M.
Whether this is your first or final child to graduate from USN, Commencement is one of USN’s hallmark moments. Imbued by the spirit of both gratitude and revelry, USN’s Commencement Exercises take place on the Back Lawn of University School promptly at 2 P.M. Seating opens at 12:30 P.M. under the tent. There are no assigned seats; rather, there are designated areas for immediate family to sit closer to the front of the tent with other seating reserved for friends of the graduates and the USN community. We have seating for almost 2,000 people at the ceremony — it truly is a come-one, come-all event. We don’t have limited tickets — you’re welcome to invite all of your friends and family.

If you need special accommodations for a guest with mobility challenges, please make arrangements with
Laura Snow by Monday, May 12. Should you have questions, please reach out to Laura or me at any time. Happy to help.
This last month will be full of many emotions … both for your graduate and you. While they might be facing a rollercoaster of emotions, make sure you keep your feet firmly planted on the ground and help your senior to take deep breaths. These are new waters for them, and together we can help them maximize how special these moments are for them and you.
Thank you for sharing your seniors with USN and me. While my time with you all has been short, it has been very impactful, and I am grateful for how much this special group has contributed to USN’s legacy.
