The USN swimming team defeated Centennial High School (174-156) and Cookeville High School (215-118) last night in a double dual meet at Tennessee State University.
The boys team earned wins over Centennial (123-47) and Cookeville (122-48), led by Holt Akers-Campbell and Mark Rusznak, won two events each. Logan Jones and Justin Maffett each earned one indididual win as well. The boys captured all three relays; William Doak, Ben Tattersfield, Ben Ghertner also had major contributions to the relay victories.
New Region qualifying times were earned by Ben Ghertner (50 and 100 freestyle), Alister Fazio (100 butterfly), Scott Hickman (50 freestyle), John Coogan (200 freestyle), and William Doak (50 and 100 freestyle). Another highlight of the evening was Daniel Pannock’s 25 second drop in the 500 freestyle.
The USN girls defeated Cookeville (93-70) but fell to Centennial (109-51).
The girls 200 freestyle relay (Alison Zhong, Logan Sweet, Ellen Jones, Sarah Alberts) won first place in the event, while the same girls finished second in the 200 medley relay. On the 400 freestyle relay, Sarah combined with seniors Kelsey Magnuson, Nina Weiss, and McKenzie Andrews to put the finishing touches on the combined team win. Logan and Ellen also contributed individual second place finishes.
Other highlights came from Julianna Lewis, who dropped 14 seconds in her 200 freestyle, and McKenzie Andrews, who dropped 12 seconds in the same race.
The team will travel to Lebanon this Saturday to compete in the Middle Tennessee Swim Club Invitational.
