Growing pains

Laila Fierce scored early, but then GCA pored in on USN's defense. As a team USN couldn't figure out its defense, leaving Ansley Martin to defend tough shots. Despite Ansley having many great saves, GCA had too many open opportunities. USN took a hard loss 1-6.
From the first few minutes it looked like USN was going to control the momentum and tempo of the game, especially with an early goal by Lila Fierce. However, Grace Christian Academy quickly turned it around. Their possession game was remnant of Harding Academy, but better. Grace Christian Academy had beautiful through balls, long balls, and great crosses. USN's outside and centre backs did their best, but they were overwhelmed. Ansley Martin was the Varsity goalie, stepping up for Nevaeh Mitchell, who sustained a shoulder injury the game before, and Ansley really showed out. Her aggressive defense and vocal direction prevented a worse outcome for the USN team. By half time is was 1-3.

In the second half, USN came out more aggressive on offense. Annalise Rudolph, Johnsie Dawkins, and Laila Fierce led some great counter attacks and had some opportunities to score, but it was evident that USN was running out of gas trying to defend GCA's well organized offense. In the end, USN was unable to control the tempo of the game or even regain the momentum. They lost 1-6.

Even though it was a rough loss, this team is fun to watch because you can't count them out. With a versatile midfield and some speed at forward, you can't sleep on USN's offense. Once this team figures out how to play connected and as a team -- not just playing within their position -- this can be a very good soccer team!
