First game with first time volleyball problems. 5-25 and 9-25 losses against Brentwood.
It was a tough matchup against Brentwood Academy for the Varsity’s first game of the season, and for many players it was their first volleyball game in 2 years! So it was understandable when nerves took over the first set. Brentwood’s serving came in hot and left some of our players uncertain and sometimes even frozen in place. Unable to really get out of their heads, the first set ended leaving the Tigers down 5-25. But volleyball is a game of mistakes and runs, and with the first set behind them the team renewed their focus and were determined to at least score in the double digits the second go around.
The beginning of the second set brought more energy and intensity from the Tigers. More bodies were hitting the floor, more communication, and a concerted effort was made to hit their team goal. Despite the outpouring of extra energy from the dedicated fans and other volleyball players, the Varsity ended being 1 point short from their goal, ending the second set with 9-25.
While it was definitely a tough loss, this game marks the beginning of this group’s journey to become better players and a stronger team and I hope you come to support them on this journey. There’s nowhere else to go from here, but up!
