The USN Science Olympiad Team had an excellent first year of competition. The Tigers not only medaled in most events, but placed sixth out of all the teams participating in the Tennessee's regional competitions.

The students have worked hard on 18 different events that cover a range of science and engineering topics including genetics, chemistry, coding, classical mechanics, circuitry, and geography. Much of this work involves learning high school or higher level material and working with their partners and teachers outside of the classroom.

Several members of this team began preparing last year only to have their regional competition postponed after the March 2020 tornado, and eventually canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Their persistence and hard work have paid off and should continue to serve them well as they move forward to the 2021 Tennessee Science Olympiad State Tournament on Saturday, April 24.

The sixteen students who participated in the regional preliminary tournament and qualify to advance to state are: Luc Béhague-Mentzel '26, Collin Chan '25, Ophelia Cherry-Pulay '25, Alexander Clinton '24, Claire Gilliam '24, Jackson Green '26, Rania Idrees '26, Eleanor Klein '25, Eleanor Molvig '25, Eliza Nichols '25, Jaymin Pastakia '26, Rohan Ramachandran '25, Avee Shah '25, Amelie Soslow '25, Dean Stevenson '26, and Lin Zheng '26.
