Serve-fest

Katie Roth
The Tigers controlled the game with dominant serving performances from a variety of players! The Tigers racked up 20 aces across 2 sets: 25-20 and 25-19 for the first win of the season!
The Tigers found themselves in Franklin Tuesday afternoon as they played Poplar Grove Middle School. The first set was a back and forth game where the Tigers were getting most of their points from aces, but also giving up points defensively due to a new serve receive formation. Despite the defensive challenges the team’s ability to score off the serve was incredible! Lauren Koethe ‘31 earned her first aces of the season, two, Maddie Kim ‘31 and Clementine Meador each had a pair of aces, Kate Jahangir ‘31 earned three aces, and Cece Vogt helped ice the game with another three aces! Outside of the awesome serving performance, Clementine Meador ‘31, Maddie Kim ‘31, and Kate Jahangir ‘31 linked up for a great bump, set, kill to bolster the energy and momentum! The Tigers took the set in a close 25-20 battle!

In the second set the Tigers struggled to continue the serving onslaught. While it wasn’t the same serving dominance by committee, Ayanna Harris ‘31 and Anna Wolf ‘31 each had a pair of aces, Maddy McKnight ‘31 had her first ace of the season, and then Cece Vogt ‘31 helped carry the team with six aces in the set! To energize the team, Maddie Kim ‘31, Cece Vogt ‘31, and Maddy McKnight ‘31 had a great connection that earned another point with their bump, set, spike action. A few possessions later Cece Vogt ‘31, Maddy McKnight, and Brynn Hillenmeyer ‘31 connected their bump, set, hit! The Tigers took the second set 25-19.

It’s clear that the Tigers are settling into their defensive strategies and principles, which will take time and experience to work through, however, their fire power offensively is impressive! Come watch this team as they find more opportunities to connect defensively and be aggressive on the net, because this team strives for growth and their willingness to focus on the details makes them beyond exciting to watch! Go Tigers!
