Solid play from all ends of the field made this game as close as they come!
The team was excited to face Grace Christian in the first round of the HVAC playoffs. We had beaten Grace a few weeks prior, but we know that it's always hard to beat a team twice. We dominated play from the first whistle -- having several chances on goal, just missing wide or high! We felt as though we were knocking on the door and we would get a goal any minute.
Tate Dawkins '30 had to make only a couple through-ball saves in the first half, as our defensive line (Charlotte Kehler '29, Elizabeth Geiger '30, CC Cook '29, and Indigo Petraglia '29) were solid with their shape and their ability to step up to the ball. Ruth Boehler '29 had a great game at the center midfield position, distributing the ball well to our outside players. Hadley Green '29 and Hattie Bishop '29 both had great chances on goal, but we couldn't finish.
Unfortunately, GCA was able to capitalize on a defensive mistake right in front of the goal and scored the go-ahead goal with only a few minutes left to play. The Tigers never quit and kept working hard for the rest of the game. We were hopeful to advance, but we are so happy with the development of this team -- we just needed a few more weeks to really start hitting our stride!
