On Saturday, April 29, the Middle School Quiz Bowl Team gathered to compete in the fourth annual USN Middle School Quiz Bowl Championships. It was time to start saying goodbye to eighth graders Basil Broemel '28, Dalton Dervan '28, Asha Guha '28, Liam Mooney '28, Eesha Nachnani '28, Garrett Northwall '28, and Annie Williamson '28. Over their three years on the Quiz Bowl team, they have contributed significantly to the team’s considerable success and will be missed.

Competing against the eighth graders for buzzes were Maya Arsovski '30, Anna Brook '30, Katie Jane Bruehl '30, Clio Cherry-Pulay '29, Rose Doyle '30, Elliot George '29, Matthew Golann '29, Max Haber '31, Asher Huffman '29, Harper Hughey '29, Lucas Little '29, Vihaan Sinha '29, Alyvia Thompson '30, Emma Tillman '31 and Claire Yu '30.

The team recently placed three in the top seven in a 50-team Tennesseee tournament. As a result, an all-USN field is incredibly strong. And each player made important contributions.

In the end, Anna, Claire, Clio, and Liam were the champions, defeating Basil, Max, and Vihaan in a thrilling final.

Hosting a tournament of this scale requires a tremendous amount of effort and dedication. We are deeply grateful to parents Brandi Bennett, David Golann, and Amy Huffman, and the faculty, MS French Teacher Martha Moore, Eighth Grade Science Teacher Pamela Malinowski, and Seventh Grade Science Teacher Heather Webber, who selflessly ran the matches.

USN parents Amy Huffman and Shanna Singh Hughey led a large group of parents who provided a feast for the players after the tournament.

Looking ahead, two of our teams will be heading to Chicago on Saturday, May 10 to compete in the National Academic Quiz Tournaments Middle School National Championships. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their skills on a national stage, and we couldn't be more excited for them.
