Quiz Bowl team hosts successful tournament
The USN Quiz Bowl team hosted the second iteration of its annual Battle of Edgehill II competition.

On Saturday, October 26, the USN Quiz Bowl team hosted the second iteration of the Battle of Edgehill II. The event was a great collaboration of USN faculty, students, parents, and many others in the Quiz Bowl community who helped out. High School Quiz Bowl Coach Wilson Hubbell, Mason Lack ‘26, and Charlie Blau ‘27 oversaw the control room, where they helped sort out protests, monitor stats, and ensure the day ran smoothly. USN parents Eric Mukherjee, Aidan Fein, Alan Wu, James Zhao, Sam Matson, Todd Garrison, Tim Russell, April York, Shari Green, and Richa Misra read packets to the teams, along with Clover Horowitz ‘26, Evan Giles ‘26. Eva Choe ‘26, Liam Mooney ‘28, Rohan Ramachandran ‘25, Jackson Green ‘26, Karsen Puzniak ‘27, Lori Giles, Justin Giles, and Cinda Lack helped keep score. USN also used its set, 2024 Satellite, written and organized by the quiz bowl team and their coach, Mukherjee.
The playing field consisted of 18 teams, which in the morning were split up into three pools of six, named Hubble, Webb, and Chandra, three real-life telescopes currently in orbit. After the first five rounds, the teams were regrouped into divisions Nonsense, Feather, and Espresso, in reference to the Sabrina Carpenter songs. The teams played nine rounds, after which four teams entered into two tie-breaker playoff games. In the end, Glasgow A placed third, Russell placed second, and Northmont won first place after going undefeated.
Overall, the day went great, thanks to the wonderful staff who helped run the competition. The school received numerous compliments about its smooth tournament direction and the staff’s excellent reading and professionalism. The Quiz Bowl team looks forward to hosting their next tournament, Snowball Fight II, in January.
