Coming up Clutch!

Katie Roth
The Tigers battled the Panthers in two epic sets where each team brought their best. In the end the Tigers persevered and with stood the Panthers strong serving and won both sets! 26-24 and 25-23!
The Tigers came into the Panther Den ready to play! Ryan Ricks ‘31 started the Tigers off with three aces to energize the team! Early on Allie Jackson ‘31 received a serve and turned it into a quick set for London Shute ‘31, who earned a nice kill! Then Margaux Soslow ‘31 stepped up to serve and she inspired her teams and fans to a whole new level! She came up with six aces! The Panthers were able to add a few service runs of their own, but the Tigers were able to maintain the lead for most of the set. Emma Tillman ‘31 contributed to the lead with a great defensive set that turned into a kill for Ryan Ricks ‘31! When the game was tied Lily Miller ‘31 and Allie Jackson ‘31 each added additional aces to keep the Tigers on top. To help ice the set, Margaux Soslow '31 made a great pass to Emma Tillman ‘31, who set the ball for London Shute ‘31 for the kill! The Tigers won 26-24!

The second set continued with the close, back and forth, type of play. The Panthers and the Tigers traded points back and forth, each team determined to gain the next point. While the Tigers kept the focus and energy, the Panthers would stop them from going on any crazy runs. For example, Lily Miller ‘31, London Shute ‘31, and Emma Tillman ‘31 each earned an ace, and Serena Tanner ‘31 and Margaux Soslow ‘31 each earned two aces. But not the same runs as the first set that controlled the tempo of the set. On the other side, the Panthers defense kept the ball in play and kept the Tiger's hits from hitting the ground. The Panther's defense and serving kept them in the set, but in a nail biter of a game the Tigers earned the win 25-23!

It was a great game where both teams competed to the end! Neither team was willing to give up and each team had the discipline and focus to stop the other team from getting too far ahead. The emphasis for the Tigers was that even if they weren’t executing perfectly they were going to commit to the game plan and get those three touches or get the opportunity to hit for a kill. While some hits landed and others didn't, that dedication to get better and stay aggressive ultimately gave the Tigers the win and gave them more experience. The Tigers will continue to grow offensively and defensively, so wish them good luck in their next game and wish for their continual growth!
