6th Grade Hawks Football lose their home opener.

The Harding Hawks took the field Saturday morning to kick off their 2024 season versus the St. Paul Christian Academy Saints. The Saints, 3 games into their season, bolstered a strong running attack that was consistent throughout the game and challenged the Hawks run defense. Looking to balance the scales, The Hawks took to the air with their passing attack.

QB, Bennett Khazanov (USN) was able to find multiple receivers throughout the game to keep the Hawks drives going but penalties unfortunately halted some of their momentum. James Thomas (HA), Nash Donahue (HA), Sawyer Dibble (USN) and Dai'ron Armstrong (VCA) were big receiving targets throughout the game. The Saints run game proved to be the difference in the game as they were able to move the yard markers and score 2 TDs on the ground and 1 TD in the air.

Two big plays on the day were a 36 yd catch and run by Connor Gunnels (HA) late in the 4th quarter to give the Hawks some late momentum and Rylan Sawyer (HA) with a 60 yd. chase down tackle to prevent a pick-6 interseption which stalled the Hawks opening drive after halftime. As the final horn sound, the Hawks lost the contest 19-0.

The Hawks will look to bounce back at home Wednesday, August 28th vs Battleground Academy.
